“Interconnected Crises,” running through May 17, weighs war, media and globalization through patterns and violent color.

Madison-based artist Matt Bindert’s new show at Edgewood College Gallery, Interconnected Crises, uses densely patterned woodcuts, repeating motifs, and a blistering color palette to create an unmistakable feeling of anxiety and overstimulation. Bindert joined me at WORT-FM studios this week to talk about the thinking behind the show and his role in an interactive art and music event this Saturday at the Central Library, part of this week’s series of events on Paramount Records. Bindert delved into many specifics of the new works, including his use of images like balloon animals and bombs, and why he wants the show to feel like an arena.

mk zariel’s chapbook coaxes us to the edges of our imaginations, and is infused with the undercurrent of love that is necessary to keep going.

A simple image includes two movie posters: one in the Spanish language on the left for "Hasta Cierto Punto," released in 1983, and one in English on the right for "Lucía," released in 1968. The left poster is rather minimalist in black and white with a bird flying in the center.
