As public events continue to get canceled due to the ongoing safety concerns and restrictions brought about by COVID-19, expect to see a lot of people embarking on a grand experiment in livestreaming. Creativity is finding alternate ways to flourish as everyone settles into their new circumstances. Logistically, livestreaming offers the safest possible way to deliver and consume various forms of art for artists and audiences alike. Social distancing is essentially guaranteed with a strictly online means of delivery and those who are sick won’t risk endangering anyone’s health by participating.

While there have been national platforms afforded to high-profile acts engaging in scheduled livestreaming (Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie currently being one of the most visible), the Madison arts community has rallied around the practice as well. Over the past week artists in Madison have been scrambling to experiment with livestreams, we’ve been collecting various events so that we can keep our readers informed of what’s happening around town.

In that spirit, we’ll be using this page as a listing resource for notable upcoming livestreams. We will also be providing this page with frequent updates due to the fleeting nature surrounding the announcements for some of these events. Please send us an email if you have something coming up. It helps if you can provide advanced notice (at least a few days) and an easily shareable link.

There’s a wide array of events to select from and several are connected to worthy causes. For some clarification, the selections have been split into three distinct categories: upcoming, ongoing, and archived. Take a look below, catch up on what you missed, and check back soon for more updates. And remember to take the opportunity to send money to people when you’re watching their streams—look out for donation info, or seek out places where you can buy their work, to help them make up for lost income from live events.
