The Madison experimental musician talks with us ahead of her July 7 solo set at Mickey’s Tavern.

Taralie Peterson is best known as one half of experimental/psych/folk outfit Spires That In The Sunset Rise, but recently she’s also been playing out more often under her solo moniker, Tar Pet. She’ll be performing as Tar Pet on July 7 at Mickey’s Tavern with Chuck Johnson and Conjuror, and has gradually been working on recording a follow-up to Tar Pet’s 2013 album Deaf Drawing Blind Listening. Peterson joined me at WORT-FM studios this week to talk about embracing woodwinds on STITSR’s new album, Beasts In The Garden, her evolution as a solo artist and her years in Madison’s small experimental-music community. Thanks to WORT’s Dylan Brogan for producing the segment; a shorter version aired this week on WORT’s In Our Backyard show.
