Fall is when Madison really ramps it up with live music. We have to, or something. Do all the concerts!

This week, we sit down to belatedly sift through some of the shows we’re most looking forward to this fall. Scott Gordon and Joel Shanahan discuss the reunion of Madison band His & Her Vanities (who Mickey’s on October 29), the inventive jazz of Beninese guitarist Lionel Loueke (playing the Union Theater on October 22), the mild bafflement that comes with realizing Freakfest has nabbed a really exciting headliner in Anderson .Paak (October 29), Scott’s favorite album by Alejandro Escovedo (playing November 17 the High Noon), and a dozen-odd other things.

We should note that we were just getting done putting this episode together when we realized that we’d neglected to mention that Pussy Riot is visiting for a November 17 talk at the Union Theater. A thousand balaclavas of shame upon us.
