The left-field hip-hop scratcher and Detroit techno veteran play July 15 and 16, respectively.
Kid Koala.
The Fete De Marquette’s Musique Electronique tent, which gives Madison an outsize place on the electronic-music map for one weekend each summer, will return with headlining DJ sets from Kid Koala on July 15 and Stacey Pullen on July 16. Each will follow his set at the Fete, which takes place in Madison’s Central Park, with a ticketed after-show at the High Noon Saloon. See the full schedule here.
Kid Koala, an adventurous Montreal-based turntablist and longtime staple of the Ninja Tune label, played the Fete in 2011. His recent work has included a graphic novel/music project called Nufonia Must Fall. Pullen came up in Detroit during that city’s mid- and late-1980s techno boom, and became one of its most prominent second-wave producers and DJs.
Others on the bill include Canadian-born, Berlin-based house artist Eddie C, Chicago DJ/producer Sassmouth, Milwaukee DJ Niki Kitz, and Wangzoom of the Madison-based Foshizzle Family DJ crew. Madison hip-hop DJ Vilas Park Sniper will open Kid Koala’s High Noon aftershow on July 15, and Foshizzle member DJ Umi will open for Pullen’s July 16 High Noon show.
This year, the electronic tent will also occupy a bigger chunk of Central Park, about twice as big in fact—probably a good move, given how overcrowded the tent’s been getting in recent years. This year’s Fete will also be a big test for new volume limits on events in city parks—although, in a weird twist, this time the electronic tent is on a piece of private property adjacent to the park, which means the new rules don’t apply there.
