Bereft signs to Prosthetic Records

The Madison band plans to release its second album next year with the highly regarded national metal label.

Metal label Prosthetic Records, whose roster includes superlative heavies like Skeletonwitch and Trap Them, announced a new addition to its roster today—Madison’s own Bereft. The band’s extended, emotionally bruising songs combine elements of black metal, doom metal and post-rock. Bereft released its first album, Lost Ages, just last year, and it ranked among our favorite Madison records of 2014. Vocalist-guitarists Alex Linden and Zach Johnson also spoke with us last fall about making the record.

Linden says Prosthetic will release the band’s in-the-works second album, likely in summer 2016. Bereft has also been playing new songs in its live sets lately. And while we’re not above enjoying some “winsome rock” now and then, it’s great to see Wisconsin artists on the more abrasive end of the spectrum get broader recognition.
