The June 6 concert will be a rare chance to see Macca in Madison. (Photo by Jimmy Baikovicius on Flickr.)
The last time Paul McCartney rolled through Wisconsin, it was for a headlining set at Summerfest in 2016, and before that, a 2013 show at Miller Park. On his 2019 U.S. tour, the preternaturally youthful pop icon will be playing Madison’s Kohl Center on June 6, behind the new album Egypt Station, due out next week. Judging by reports from that Summerfest show, McCartney is still pulling off stacked and rather long sets of songs from across his Beatles, Wings, and solo discography. I for one am going to hope against hope for a bunch of deep cuts from Ram.
Between this and Metallica’s upcoming show this Sunday at the Kohl Center, it could be that Madison’s reclaiming some arena-tour real estate, possibly as a result of Live Nation’s consolidation of several local concert promoters and venues. Public ticket sales for the McCartney show begin on September 7.
