The annual event at La Fete de Marquette and the High Noon expands in 2019.
Musique Electronique, the annual house and techno festival split between a stage at La Fete de Marquette and late-night shows at the High Noon Saloon, will return on July 12 and 13 with veteran Detroit artists Omar-S and Stacey Pullen as headliners.
Omar-S will be making his first stop in Madison in recent memory. He’s probably best known for producing raw, driving techno tracks, but his DJ sets reach far beyond. Pullen is a return visitor here: His taut, shimmering set at the Fete stage in 2016 was one of my musical highlights that summer.
The headliners at Musique Electronique are usually folks who’ve been around a few decades and participated in some of the pivotal moments in the development of house and techno, especially in the Midwest, but the lineup also makes room for newer voices driving it forward. This year, those artists include NYC-based Umfang, who co-founded the Discwoman label and offers a resourcefully warped take on techno in her original productions.
Over the past few years Musique has scaled back, with one night at the Fete in McPike Park and two at the High Noon. As of 2019, it’s back to both nights of DJ sets at both places.
